Then, a long list of card providers will populate the screen. Now, tap the “+ Add to Wallet” button at the bottom right of the screen and choose “Gift card”. It’s time to open the Google Wallet app on your Android device. This may defeat the purpose of digitizing them in some ways, but you still won’t need to reach for your wallet in most instances, and over time, you will no longer need to keep them physically handy. If for some reason the provider doesn’t scan gift cards or decides they won’t accept a digital version, you’ll still have all of your bases covered. Until you get comfortable with checking out on the go with Google Wallet, you may want to keep these in your physical wallet. Take a sharpie marker and write the allocated amount per card on the back, but be sure you don’t cover the bar code.
